Took a while to sketch and paint this one. I like taking my finger through the little trails and seeing where I wind up. Life is full of twists and turns. Some we can see coming; others we can’t. This painting tries to capture that twisting and turning that we all face in life.

Joy! Where were you (in your mind, I mean)?

I remember the night I sketched this out. I was reflecting on some of our blog conversation about stepping out and trying something new. When I pulled out a fresh, clean piece of watercolor paper I wanted to be open to whatever came out. I started drawing the larger shapes first. Then I started adding the shapes inside of the larger shapes. Then I started making the labyrinth trails and it just “took on a life of its own.” It was a joyous experience artistically. I have about 5 hrs in that piece, I’d say. Thank you for your encouragement!

IS there a path through it all the way? AWESOME! Also another good card. I can see me writing a heartfelt “thank you” to someone on this piece!

Cool. I would be glad to get some printed for you if you’d be interested. I have a local printer I use and he’s very good. I’d be glad to put in an order for you. Let me know!

So you’d want cards of labyrinth and boxes, just to make sure I get it right? 😉

Yes, definitely these two and one or two others to round out an even number? I assume 8-12 in a box? I am not picky, honestly…I love ALL your work! I’ll send you my details via your Contact Page to make sure your hard work is rewarded.

You are so sweet, thank you! You’ve made my day. My Mom was just saying she could see some of these pieces as cards the other day. How cool!

Another visually stunning piece! Btw, have you ever done a walking meditation/prayer through a labyrinth?

Thanks! Yes about 5-6 yrs ago. It was a really rich experience spiritually. I’m guessing you have too?

Yes sir! Probably around ten or fifteen years ago. Not knowing its rich ancient history as a spiritual practice, my immediate knee-jerk reaction was to write it off as a rather empty, new-agey fad. Nonetheless, I decided to set all that aside enter into the experience with an open mind and heart. As I walked, I found myself amazed at the rich insights and connections that arose in my mind and heart as I reef
Excited how like walking it paralleled my own spiritual journey with all of its unexpected twists and turns, and how even when I sometimes felt that I was so much in the dark (or in the light as the case may be) that all of this was inexorably leading my deeper and deeper into my Center, my Soul, my inner Hear and True Self, that “place” where heaven and earth are one.
It has been a long time since I thought about all of that, so this is a moment of grace for me, I suppose, so thank you and your art for putting me back in touch with one of life’s sacred moments.

I’m very grateful to learn of your experience and thankful that in a small way this painting was helpful in reconnecting you to it! It is interesting how experiences like this focus our attention and open our hearts preparing us for encounters with the spiritual presence of God. These types of experiences have always confirmed, for me at least, that God is seeking active engagement with those who are seeking God in return. God’s pursuit of us is a lovely aspect of God’s character. God longs to know us despite how our spiritual wanderlust often leads us down opposing paths. Labyrinths capture this journey in a wonderful way.

Thanks Tom. My journey certainly hasn’t been straightforward or easy. But it has been good despite the challenges and heartbreak.

I just posted about the labyrinth at Chartres, and love the synchronicity of finding your post. Your painting also reminds me of the mysterious ancient temples on Malta!
