The bold line in the center juxtaposed against the variety of lines and shapes surrounding it really draws the eye to explore this piece.  Fun sketch for a Friday!

A sketch that I’ve been slowly plugging away at for a few months.  I love the designs that emerge from the interplay of lines in this piece.

So this is a recent piece that I finished sketching last night.  It kept coming together in stages and then last night I just knew it was done.  What I do not know is if there is a title for this piece & likewise whether it calls for color or not?  So some viewer participation is being requested today.  As you view this piece does a name or title emerge for you?  Secondly, would this piece benefit from the addition of color, if so what colors do you think would fit this piece well?  Thank you for viewing and for any insights you’d be happy to share!

Dream State (2015)

I always wrestle with too much white space but equally with filling up the space just so a piece doesn’t appear so vacant.  So this painting business always reminds me how important it is to relinquish control and trust the piece to dialogue with me, in this unspeakable way, about what it needs and how to bring it to life.  You’ll notice a red dot in the middle of the piece in the section of geometric doodles.  Why is it there?  The piece spoke to me, not audibly but visually and perceptively, and told me that red dot should go there.  Am I alone in this sense of connection to the pieces I am working on?  Those of you who paint or are passionate about some kind of creative art form, can you relate?

Still playing with the color palette of Roy Lichtenstein and some new lines.  I love the relationship between the shapes in this piece.  They look like they could fit together but I didn’t want to make it appear as though they should.  They fit together less like a puzzle but more intuitively.

The Blues (2015)

The Blues (2015)

A piece I did recently where the same base color of blue was mixed with subtle touches of two other colors.  Just alternated the three colors through the piece.  Was really pleased with the design that emerged when I sat to sketch this piece out before painting.
