Splice (Abstract)

So the other night I went to my city’s art gallery.  When I came home I was really inspired and had lots of artistic energy flowing inside so I painted 5 pieces that were okay but I wasn’t happy with any of them, so they wound up in the kitchen wastebasket.  I dug them out on Saturday afternoon (couple of them got hit with coffee grinds but weren’t in bad condition.  Point of information: I don’t normally dumpster/trash can dive).  Anyway, I started cutting them into strips and then mounted the strips on a piece of card stock.  What emerged is this piece.

I’m so glad you saved them! Wonderful work, should we expect coffee and wine stains on the next piece?

What a great way to save some pieces you weren’t thrilled with! It ended up turning out wonderfully! Great idea!

Thanks Kayse! I tend to toss the pieces I’m not happy with, but inspiration took over and I tried something new.

I remember fishing cigarette butts out of the trash when I used to smoke…I lived in a five story walk up and if I ran out of cigarettes, I had to do that. Some were soaked in coffee grounds. Your post made me think of that. I like the resurrection of your frustration though! That’s what I like collage. It seems you have more control over the work by moving things around and pasting them down!

That is an amusing story! I really enjoyed working on this piece. It just sort of came to me that I could try that and see what it would look like. I enjoyed fitting the pieces together and seeing the piece come to life.
