Swim (2016)

16 Dec

fullsizerender-17

A recent acrylic on paper.  As I was painting I noticed little fish and bubbles and sea creatures emerging.  Was a fun piece to create!

Cascade (1620-36) (2015)

There is a sense of physical gravity to this piece, its as though the images are tumbling down the page.  The colors just came together as I was painting.  It seems like the green overlay helps pull the background images to the forefront.

Blue (1620-24).edd.11.25.2015

Blue is a color that speaks deeply to me.  I have a deep connection to it.  I am drawn to ocean and sky.  The subtle nuance of color here is visually appealing to me and the interplay of line and color make this piece enjoyable to explore.

The Waters (2015)

Water is a profound thing when you think about it.  Water is both capable of sustaining life and devastating it.  We use water to grow things, but too much of it can destroy crops and kill the food we attempt to grow with its help.  Water is a powerful symbol.  Its power and immensity can overwhelm us and serve as a metaphor for times when life feels overwhelming, but it can also bring about a sense of serenity and peace.  Calm harbors and still waters are metaphors for peaceful seasons of life.  Water is, has, and always will carry, for me, powerful symbolic and experiential significance.  I’d enjoy hearing if water is an important image/symbol for you and in what ways.  Enjoy & happy Friday!  🙂

What if we could ride a wave right into the arms of the person we miss the most?  Wouldn’t that be wonderful!

Green Sea

I love the turmoil of the open sea.  It is both chaotic and beautiful at the same time.  The sea can move from placid to turbulent in an instant.  Isn’t life a bit like the sea: unpredictable, discomforting (at times), beautiful, uncertain, peaceful, quiet, wild, gentle, clamorous?  I don’t group all the positive adjectives describing life together nor all the negative adjectives together because we don’t experience life that way.  A single day can include a multiplicity of opposing feelings, experiences, and encounters.  Life is like the sea.
