The Stare

 

I sketched this image a couple nights ago and painted it yesterday.  It makes me think about focus and determination but also about sincerity and seriousness of attention to something that matters.  I used black/gray tones to hint at the face being that of a statue but I really wanted to convey something real, something true because I think his gaze is saying something.

I think eyes reveal essence.  They are a favorite subject of mine because of their beauty and depth.

My first human subject.  Painted from a photograph I saw the other day on a fellow blogger’s site.  This person’s simple, stunning beauty caught my attention and I had to paint her.
