Vive la France!

18 Nov

le tour eiffel.edd.11.18.2015

I stand with the people of France in resisting the evil actions of religious extremists who are imposing their warped views on their culture through horrific & entirely senseless acts of violence.  Imposing one’s views on others is never an acceptable approach.  In a free world, people are entitled to their views and beliefs and the free expression of those things.  We must never allow violent extremists to deter free expression.  “Resister califat!”

Another new abstract piece.  This one just came together.  I worked from the center out when I painted the black lines.  The color scheme really grabs me, it has a penetrating warmth about it.

This one can be viewed from just about any perspective.  Really drawn to the middle and bottom right of the painting.

untitled 1620-14.edd.11.12.2015

Another new abstract piece done in 16″ x 20″ format.  I find the middle of the painting really captures my attention.

A labyrinth-like piece.  Really liked how the yellow half circles break up the flow of the piece so it’s not just winding lines in a sort of predictable pattern.

I was reflecting this morning and I feel like I am in this space with my work that feels so real, so good, and so true.  I feel like there is this enormous temptation as an artist to compare yourself with others which leads to feeling like your work doesn’t measure up (whatever that means in this entirely subjective world of art anyway).  I have a style (though it seems to be ever emerging and ever transforming) and I accept that I am who I am as an artist and I am pleased with the art I’m producing right now.  Ask me tomorrow and I may feel differently, lol!

Worlds Collide (1620-9) (2015)

Nature & industry are often at odds.  Industry makes demands of nature that can stress nature’s capacity to be resilient.  This piece reminds me to remember I have a part to play in caring for the earth.  I don’t view industry and progress as the enemy but it is my view that we can all do more to make earth care a priority.
