Untitled 1620-26 (2015)

Orange hues pervade this piece.  Some of the paint I used has a glossy sheen so it is a little shiny.  The lighter orange areas really help off-set the more aggressive darker areas.  Was fun to play with this color.

I never used to like orange too much, never wanted to use it, etc., but in the past couple of years I have really had to change my mind – orange is great! I love this one for its warmth and also for the progression of shades that works against the design of the black lines. Creates an interesting movement to this one. I like!

Claudia I always love reading your feedback because it expands my own visual experience with my work. I try to forget its a piece I created and try to enjoy & experience my work as a primitive encounter. Hard to do but it is the stance I always attempt to adopt.

I know what you mean. I always think of what I wanted it to look like but I can’t seem to force my paintings to do anything, they end up as they end up, and then I say, hmmm. In the end I am sure I like this path better – I like the uncertainty of the destination, maybe?

Claudia I love what you wrote here. I love the way that the creative process opens us to understanding truth in ways that mimic/mirror life. In the same way that we go into working on a piece realizing that we can’t force our paintings to do anything and that the destination it is unknown how often life teaches us that same truth. Good stuff, thank you!

I agree way underused. Truthfully I add a splash here or there but have never really thought of doing an entire piece in orange. Thanks for you kind words, always a boost!

I hope you don’t mind me commenting a lot – as a new follower, I’m just catching up on a few bits of your recent work! I had to comment on this one, because the first thing that came to mind was “Tribal”. Particularly the odd little surprised face at the bottom right corner 😀

Hi there I really appreciate your comments. Thank you for taking the time to give me some feedback on my work. I agree there is kind of a tribal feel to this one.
