Grid (2015)

Another “departure piece” for me.  I began this one by applying the paint from the tube onto the paper.  This is a dry sponge piece.  There are several layers of paint making up this piece added in a kind of random even sporadic way.  Thought there was a depth to this piece visually that created lots of interesting things to view.

    The technique you’ve used is one of my favourites: palette knife to canvas or board. I like this for painting on collages, when I know exactly what I’m going to do and there’s no hesitation.

      Claudia I had to sit on this one a while when I started working on it. It really is the merger of these separate layers that articulated something about the previous layer I hadn’t noticed prior to adding the next. It was such an exhilarating process on this one.

        Yes, I paint in the same way. It takes time and some space in between sessions to see where to go next, and the existing work seems to tell me where it’s going next. I really like that process, not knowing where it will end up and letting it go like that. Your painting really said that, loud and clear.

    Very cool cubist feel. You should keep experimenting. Stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to some of your best and most challenging work.
