Great Buildings: Schonbrunn Gloriette (Vienna, Austria)

Saw a photo of this lovely structure online and was inspired to paint/illustrate it.  It was originally built in 1775 in honor of one of Austria’s emperors.  Destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt by 1947.  It underwent additional renovations in 1995.  It is such a beautiful structure.  It is located in the garden on the grounds of this estate.

Thank you so much! I would love to see it in person someday. I must journey to Europe in the future. I’m afraid I won’t want to return because it seems as though everywhere you look you’ll encounter such amazing, inspiring sites.

Yes wonderful painting! But I love your line! You have a very nice line that shows you are looking, not just putting it down!

Thank you so much Hollis! When I’m captured by something beautiful it becomes a passion to express it, not just represent it.

Oh absolutely! The Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna is one of the most balanced and beautiful structure that has remained wonderfully preserved over the last few hundred years. A tour of the palace and the grounds behind is an unforgettable experience.

What was it about the palace that motivated you to draw it?

Your painting reminds me of my first few weeks in Vienna during which I visited Schönbrunn and had coffee at the Gloriette. Thanks for bringing back the lovely memories 🙂

Thank you your comment helps me see my work through others’ eyes which is, coincidentally, the hardest part about sharing your art with others. I know things I’m not pleased with and would do differently, but the viewer can’t be inside my head ruminating on those things. All of that to say, thanks that is a very helpful comment.
